Video 5

From 3D and 4D Cartography of Archaeological Stratigraphy: A case study at the Western Forum in Ostia Antica by Undine Lieberwirth

  • And this video now shows the combination of archaeological features together with geophysics.

We have in yellow the top surface of the archaeological layer 108, in green layer 103 and the dots are the archaeological finds and in combination with his services we get an idea where most of these finds can be but according to the colour they can be sorted into each layer. Now we see the overlay of the geophysical volume - now in transparent format with different cuts on different places together with the archaeological features inside these geophysical wavelength. The highest rate of these wavelengths are in red, the lowest in blue. This illustrates that they also correspond very well in 3D dimensions with the archaeological finds and features. ParaView© also displays descriptive statistics like histograms, in this example to the distribution of the GPR-wavelength value inside the whole model. A derivative of the geophysical GPR-value are threshold intervals. They can be displayed as voxel models as well, in this case showing the highest values and they can be also shown as iso-surfaces and iso-values of the same intervals.
