From Canoes: A Natural History in North America by Mark Neuzil and Norman Sims

  • Sea otters can weigh up to 100 pounds and have a dense, thick fur that made their pelts valuable in the fur trade with China. This engraving, made after a drawing by John Webber, was published in Captain Cook's narrative, A Voyage to the Pacific Ocean in 1780.
