• Elizabeth Rona's “rabbits,” that is, sample transfer devices used in neutron activation analysis. After the sample is placed inside the rabbit, it is transferred via a pneumatic line to a reactor core for activation by neutrons. The analysis of the induced radioactivity in the sample reveals information about the elements originally present in the sample. Rona used those at the Oak Ridge Graphite Reactor in (ORAU) in the 1950s. Source: The Historical Instrumentation Collection, Oak Ridge Associated Universities.
