Woman in Canoe

From Canoes: A Natural History in North America by Mark Neuzil and Norman Sims

  • A woman poses in a canoe for a studio portrait. Antioco Cruces and Luis Campa photographed “cartes-de-visites” of Mexican “tipos” or “occupationals” by creating elaborate scenes in their studio. These photographs were often realistic, but perpetuated stereotypes of Mexican workers.
