Bill Reid and Associates Creating a Dugout Canoe, 1985

From Canoes: A Natural History in North America by Mark Neuzil and Norman Sims

In 1985, Bill Reid and his associates created a dugout canoe at the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver. An important step is steaming the hull to spread the sides and provide a bit of lift at the ends. The floor and sides of the canoe are covered with brush so that the hot stones put into the water do not touch the wood of the canoe.
