Gerhard Kirsch was the son of a professor of technical mechanics in Vienna's Technische Hochschule. He had studied physics at the University of Vienna and Uppsala and was Meyer's student. In 1920 he became Meyer's assistant at the Radium Institute where the photo was taken, c 1925. Source: Agnes Rodhe, personal archive.
