Civilian deaths due to state-based violence in the Philippines

  • Figure 4.2 shows the map of the Philippines, indicating the total number of civilians killed by state agents during the years 2001 to 2010. The largest numbers of deaths were recorded in the southern part of the Philippine archipelago, with 2362 in the main island of Mindanao, while the Zamboanga peninsula of Mindanao registered around 1659 deaths. The northernmost region of the Philippine archipelago, Ilocos, only registered 434 deaths, while the Bicol region in the Luzon group of Islands registered 577 deaths.
