Video 1

From 3D and 4D Cartography of Archaeological Stratigraphy: A case study at the Western Forum in Ostia Antica by Undine Lieberwirth

  • The first video of this publication shows the model of trench 1 of the West Porticus of Ostia Antica. It is focused on the vector model display in connection with the geospatial database we attached; in GIS normally the attribute tables. What we can see here are the grid lines of the whole trench in red and in blue the smaller part. ParaView© offers a real 3D coordinate system where we can see all archaeological layers in different depths by different colours as you can see on the legend on the right hand side. The geometry is connected to an attribute table or geospatial data base as a normal 2D GIS. You can choose on one hand the layers by their attribute table and select them or you can choose the geometry and select for example the outlines of the archaeological layers for getting numbers according to the attribute or database. The same functionality works with the vector points - here the archaeological finds displayed with their layer number and we can also show the finds number of each archaeological find in correspondence to its layer shown by its layer colour and the legend on the right side.
