  • Creeping barrage, near Meteren, 18 August 1918. The 9th (Scottish) Division made a limited attack on 18 August after heavy artillery preparation and under a dense creeping barrage. This photo shows what a dense creeping barrage looked like. The clouds are partly from smoke shell (25 percent of the barrage) and partly from dusty ground. Source: IWM photo Q6990.
