  • The American YMCA and six other social welfare agencies conducted a coordinated national fund-raising campaign from 11-18 November 1918 to secure money to support relief operations around the world. The United War Work Campaign became the model for today's United Way campaign as welfare organizations seek modest contributions from large numbers of subscribers.
