Simultaneous setting design for Comedy of the Black Goat

From The Director's Prism: E. T. A. Hoffmann and the Russian Theatrical Avant-Garde by Dassia N. Posner

  • This unfinished scene design, partly drawn in pencil, partly painted, hearkens directly to medieval "mansions," side-by-side settings that depict multiple locations simultaneously.

The full title of Tyss-Eisenstein's play:
A True Comedy About the Lustful Sorceress Tortellina, the Black Goat, God’s Righteous Judgment, and Also About the Crafty Devils Orishel and Tortishel and Other Amusing Events as They Happened in the Good City of Madaur in Ancient Times.
