State-based violence deaths in the Philippines

  • Figure 3.2 is an area graph that shows the number of recorded deaths resulting from state-based violence in the Philippines during the years 1989 to 2009. Starting in 1989 until 1991, with nearly 1000 to 1600 deaths per year, the 1990s recorded much lower average number of killings per year, particularly with less 400 per year during that decade. The number of killings dramatically increased at the start of the new millennium, ranging from 1400 in 2000 and 800 in 2009.
