Genova 1746–1748: Fortificazioni, topografia, poliorcetica, vicende e uomini del grande assedio
Fulvio MajoccoGenova 1746-1748 presents a complete historical picture of the siege of Genoa by the combined Imperial and Piedmontese armies during the War of the Austrian Succession. There is particular focus on the events, key characters of the siege and urban fortifications of Genoa, but above all it studies the field fortifications built by both the besiegers and defenders along the hills surrounding the city. This is the first comprehensive review of these artifacts, which is the result of many years of extensive surveys carried out on the territory by the author. Included are nearly three hundred photos, maps, drawings and models. The volume confirms the fundamental function that military archaeology plays alongside traditional historical study to reconstruct the contexts and appearance of the environment in which the historical events occurred, giving them a real location in the current territories.
